WHO WE ARE

We are a group of people brought together by a shared passion for improving our lives and the lives of others. We have years of combined experience working with the people of Guatemala and have a developed a deep seated love for them and their culture. Now we want to share that love with others. We have had incredible opportunities that have allowed us to be part of something truly special. Through these experiences, we have come to believe like Thoreau in the “unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavore.” We are excite to share what we’ve learned and to help people accomplish what they might have believed to be impossible and change their own lives while simultaneously making a positive and profound difference in the lives of others.

OUR CULTURE

  • WE WORK HARD EVERYDAY
  • WE NEVER STOP PUSHING OURSELVES
  • WE ARE COMMITTED TO REACHING OUR GOALS
  • WE STRIVE TO BE CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVING

WHAT WE DO

Our trainers and staff get fitness, they live it, and they understand what a powerful impact being healthy can have on your day-to-day life. We love getting out and doing things and whether we’re hiking through remote areas of Guatemala, biking along distant trails, or simply climbing up a flight of stairs, knowing that our bodies are up to the task is important. It’s not about conforming to societal ideals or looking the way others expect you to look, it’s about being able live your life the way you want to live it with out having to worry about the limitations and other concerns that poor fitness can create. We get that and we want to help you be the healthiest you’ve ever been.

Who We Are

Lose Yourself in Guatemala is an experience unlike any other. It is the first program to ever combine a weight loss boot camp and a life changing humanitarian service adventure. It is designed for people who are willing to get out of their comfort zone and change the lives of indigenous people living in an third world country. We improve the lives of impoverished mayan people by teaching them how to live a self sustainable lifestyle. It is not designed for people who wish to be pampered and waited on all day. There will be many times when the workouts may seem too hard to bear, but our goal is to push you in order to receive maximum results. With the daily workouts formulated by our well-practiced trainers and the fresh, authentic Mayan diet, we will be sure to make our participants truly “Lose” themselves in more ways than one.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • General

  • What is the weather like?

Guatemala is termed the “land of eternal spring” for good reason. The temperatures in Senahu stay right around 75 degrees during the day, year round, and dropping into the 60’s at night. It does rain frequently for short periods of time so be sure to come prepared for such weather.

  • Am I going to be pampered?

NO! This is a program formulated for adventurous people who want an experience. This is not a typical spa retreat type boot camp. You will be “roughing” it at times, which is all part of the fun!

  • Are there age Limits?

Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent (family and friend discount applies).

  • Can I call home?

Yes! Each participant will receive a cell phone to use during their stay. We provide a nominal amount of minutes in order to communicate among ourselves but additional minutes can be purchased for calls home! Also there are internet cafes where you can skype, Email, etc…

  • Can I book as part of a group?

Absolutely! It is always fun to share a new experience with someone you are close with! We even have the option of triple or quadruple occupancy at a discounted rate! Group bookings are arranged by contacting us through our contact page.

  • Are there laundry facilities available?

Although some people like to have the full experience of living the Mayan lifestyle, and doing their own laundry (by hand), down at the local “laundry center” Others prefer to hire a local to do it for them. For the cost of about $3.00 you can have it done for you.

  • What if my question wasn't as "Frequently Asked" as I thought

  • Health

  • What if I have dietary restrictions?

Although slight modifications can be made, we are not able to cater to dietary restrictions. The menu is made as diversified as resources permit but varied foods are limited in that part of the country. You are welcome to look over our planned menus to see if what we offer will work for you!

  • What if I am not able to keep up with the workouts?

We want your workouts to be tough, to push you to levels you never thought you were capable of. However we do realize that everyone is at a different level of fitness and while it is our job to push you to your limit, we also teach you how to modify each workout to fit your abilities.

  • Am I too overweight?

We don’t have any weight requirements. Even though this is a vigorous program, it is designed to cater to many different levels of fitness. We do, however, want to make sure you are well and able to participate in the program, hence the Pre-Program Doctors Physical Form that must be completed prior to the program.

  • Do I HAVE to be overweight?

No! We don’t have any weight requirements to participate in the LYS program. If you are already in good shape, great! We can help you get even better. Some people join our program simply because they want to get in best shape of their lives and have the experience of a lifetime serving the local people.

  • What types of workouts can I expect?

We believe in VARIETY! Besides the daily service work and walking to and from those locations we offer a lot of different workouts. Some of these include: Boot camp, Hiking, Zumba, Kickboxing and Strength Training./p>

  • Travel/Safety

  • How much money should I bring with me? Is there a way to get more money if I need to?

Although Lose Yourself is a 100% all inclusive program, we suggest that you bring a little bit of spending cash to cover any souvenirs or extras that you may want to buy during your stay. The amount you bring is entirely up to you! You can always use your USA debit card to withdraw, or just bring a small amount of cash to exchange when you get there. We suggest bringing no more than $100 dollars cash for safety reasons.

  • Is it dangerous?

The People of Senahu are very proud of how safe and quiet the streets of their city are. It is a small community where everyone knows each other and crime is not tolerated well. However it is a third world country so we always recommend keeping a close eye on your stuff, not wearing flashy expensive jewelry, and staying with the group.

  • What do I need to bring with me?

We will send you a packing list of both required and recommended items to bring once you book your trip with us.

  • You will be escorted with the group in a private transfer bus?

Normally we would have to take a 12 hour bus ride through the windy mountain roads, which can be quite taxing. However, we provide a helicopter service to transport all of our participants directly into Senahu from the Guatemala City Airport. It is a surreal experience in and of itself!

  • Do I need travel insurance?

It is mandatory that you have travel insurance. We can help you through the process and answer any questions that you may have after you have booked the trip. Travelers insurance will cost between $100 - $300 dollars depending on the coverage and duration of your stay.
